The leader of a non-partisan think-tank devoted to studying and strengthening civil society is speaking out against legalizing casinos in New York. David Blankenhorn is President of the Institute for American Values. He opposes passage of Proposition 1 on the November 5th ballot that would amend the state constitution to allow seven non-Indian casinos. Blankenhorn says the betting parlors generate a host of social problems. He says anywhere from 35 to 55 percent of casino revenue comes from addicted gamblers. And he says the claims of economic benefit are false.
